Organizing Your Coupons

When I first began collecting coupons, it started out pretty simple...I had a small pile from the Sunday newspaper, and I would simply take a small envelope with my coupons in it to the store when I would go shopping. Then, as I began to collect coupons from other places (see my post here about where to collect coupons), I began to realize that the small white envelope was not going to cut it. To top it off, my 18 month old decided on two separate shopping trips to dump my envelope full of coupons all over the store floor...I knew then that I needed to do something different.

I started searching online, and found this idea - a 3-ring notebook with baseball card holders. I absolutely love it!! I like being able to see all of my coupons...I like to easily be able to flip through it at the store...and I really like the fact that my 18 month old cannot dump the coupons out!

For me, I have found that organizing the coupons in the order that I shop through my store works the best for me, but you might find that organizing yours alphabetically or by expiration date suits you better. I made little tabs out of white mailing labels, and folded them down over the baseball card pages.

While you will probably get a few stares or questions about this large organization method when you carry it around the store, it is a great way of keeping them organized and in view.

Here are a few other ideas for organizing your coupons:

Please leave me a comment if you have any questions about my coupon notebook! I'd be glad to help!

I stumbled across your website several months ago. I can not remember how but I put you in my favorites and I check in from time to time. I have done several of your offers. I love chocolate so the Mars thing is great. I saw your post today about organizing you coupons. I have seen a lady in Wal-Mart doing this same system and like you said I looked twice but it was a good thing. I can appreciate the time it takes to be so prepared. Keep up the good work. I really like seeing what you have to post.

Someday I will be organized too. The binder and baseball card holder looks great. Nancy

I have a question. Do you actually cut out all the coupons from the RP, SS and P&G add things? I find that it's so much work to cut them all out and file them all just for about a month of being able to use them. A lot of them that I see expire so fast. I feel like it's so much time and I may use four of them. What do you do about this??

Tessa,
Well, I do cut/file all or almost all of mine! But, I am kind of an "organization freak," so it bothers me if I don't!:)
I would suggest maybe cutting/filing the ones that you know you are more likely to use, and then perhaps hole-punching the rest of the insert pages, and sticking them in your binder. That way you would at least have all of them with you in case you run into an unexpected sale. You could even print out the list of coupons that are in each insert from the Sunday Coupon Preview, and then stick that at the front of each of your hole-punched inserts so you could easily scan to see what coupons are in them. (There goes my organization-craziness again!) Hope that helps!

thanks for the ideas! I just feel like I don't have the time to cut them all out!
