Yummy Salmon Recipes

Since salmon has been on sale the past two weeks at Walmart, I have recently tried two different recipes that I feel I must pass on to you...they were both so yummy!

They are both from Allrecipes.com...one of the top three websites that I visit everyday.

Maple Salmon
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 pound salmon

In a small bowl, mix the maple syrup, soy sauce, garlic, garlic salt, and pepper.
Place salmon in a shallow glass baking dish, and coat with the maple syrup mixture. Cover the dish, and marinate salmon in the refrigerator 30 minutes, turning once.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven, and bake salmon uncovered 20 minutes, or until easily flaked with a fork.

*This was delicious served over brown rice with the extra marinade poured on the rice...I really wish I had more right now!

Baked Salmon II
2 cloves garlic, minced
6 tablespoons light olive oil
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
2 (6 ounce) fillets salmon

In a medium glass bowl, prepare marinade by mixing garlic, light olive oil, basil, salt, pepper, lemon juice and parsley. Place salmon fillets in a medium glass baking dish, and cover with the marinade. Marinate in the refrigerator about 1 hour, turning occasionally.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Place fillets in aluminum foil, cover with marinade, and seal. Place sealed salmon in the glass dish, and bake 35 to 45 minutes, until easily flaked with a fork.

*I have always heard that your "taste buds change every 7 years," and now I definitely believe it. My husband (who has never liked fish, or even much seafood for that matter) has recently started asking for salmon! Hooray...that's happy news for me since I LOVE seafood!

*Just remember, the coupons will vary depending on city/paper. I have been reminded of this again recently as a friend has been giving me some extra coupon inserts that she has gotten (Thank you, Julie!).
At first, I was just cutting out one insert's coupons, keeping what looked like "duplicate inserts" but not cutting those out. Then, I realized that even though they had the same cover on them, if they were from different papers, they sometimes have totally different coupons! I have found coupons in one city's Smart Source insert that was not in another city's Smart Source insert. They might even have a coupon for the same product, but a different amount off (for example, last week, there was a coupon in one insert for $ .50 off a certain product, and in the same insert for a different city, it was $1.00 off for the same product!).

Saving Money With Christmas Cards...

It's that time of year again...time to start thinking about Christmas cards. Buying and sending Christmas cards can be a very expensive tradition.

We used to buy boxes of Christmas cards from the dollar store. But, of course, we still had to buy stamps.

Then, we started having kids, and had to send a picture with our card! :) One year we did the Walmart photo cards, and another year we did the dollar store cards with a picture inside. We have finally settled on the "Christmas postcard" method.

Here's how we do it a little more inexpensively:

We get prints made FREE or almost FREE through deals from various photo printing sites around the web (Snapfish, Shutterfly, etc.), and then send the actual prints as postcards ($ .28 a stamp). They still look great when people receive them, and that saves us from buying photo cards or cards and prints, etc.

I was prompted to think about this because of this great deal from See Here by Fuji Film. Right now, new customers can get 100 FREE 4x6 prints (just pay shipping) by entering the promo code "prints" at checkout. That could easily be all of your "Christmas postcards."

*In case you're wondering, I designed our "Christmas postcard" above using Photoshop Elements. You could easily add text or other objects to your picture through any photo editing software that you may have on your computer.

Walmart Turkeys = $ .40/pound

Walmart is stressing the fact that they are trying to make things economical for families this Thanksgiving/Christmas season by lowering their prices on many things in their stores. One area that they focusing on is the Thanksgiving meal.

Once Upon A Child Needs...

Once Upon A Child just sent me an e-mail letting me know the things they are currently in need of in their store (if you have any of these things in storage at your house, this may be a great way to make some extra Christmas money!):

I have shared with you before the great success I have had selling my baby things to Once Upon A Child consignment stores. I have had other friends who have not had as much success. I know that several factors may contribute to this:

- Take stuff early in the day...once they meet their "quota" for the day, they will not take any more.
- Call first to make sure they are taking things that day. On certain days, such as sale days, they will not buy things.
- Only take name brand things. (Many times even if the quality of an item is not as good, they will take Gap, Old Navy and Gymboree over Carters, etc.)

FREE Redbox Rental - Today Only!

Redbox is giving out another FREE movie rental from any of their Redbox locations today only. The code is TEGJ6FD.

It is very easy to use these coupon codes. On the first screen you see, there will be a selection titled, "Rent With Promo." When you click on that, you will be prompted to enter the code, choose your movie and then swipe your credit card (if you do not bring the movie back by 9:00pm the next day, you will be charged $1.00 a day).

*For my local readers, there is a Redbox located just inside the Walmart entrance (Pharmacy side) or I believe Walgreens has one right outside their entrance now too.
