Just a Quick Coupon Tip...

This is just a reminder for some of you, but if you are new to coupons, this may prove helpful:

Always read your coupons carefully!

Often, coupons will say, "$1.00 off any....." If the coupon does not specify a size limit, you can use it for any size of that item.

For example, often Tide will come out with a "$1.00 off any size" Tide coupon. This can be used with the "travel size" Tide that is located in the travel section of the store. You will be able to get one load of Tide for free. That may not seem like much to you, but if you were not going to use the coupon anyways, it is one free load of laundry you did not have before. (If you buy Tide on a regular basis, you obviously would rather put it towards the bigger sizes).

I noticed in the most recent issue of All You magazine, that there were a couple of coupons like this. For example, there is a coupon for "$1.00 off 1 Sun Chips." This should be able to be used for a snack size Sun Chips...free snack! Like I said before, if you would normally buy Sun Chips, by all means, use it on the bigger bag!

Thomas Nelson Review

This is a review of a DVD that I got for free through the "Thomas Nelson Book Review Bloggers." It is a great program if you have a blog. Basically, you apply, and if you are accepted, you have the choice of several products. Once they send it to you, you have to watch/read it, write a 200-word review and post it on Amazon.com and your blog. Then, the product is yours to keep! Go here for more information.

The Read and Share DVD Bible was a very well done animated film. The thing that I appreciated the most about it was its’ thorough yet concise way of telling each of the thirteen stories from the Old and New Testament. Each story was long enough to include all of the key parts of the Biblical account of each story, but they were short enough to not lose the interest of our little ones’ attention span.

The animation is well done, although my children were quick to add that they did not care for the round noses on the characters! One of my children was also disappointed that they skipped a few stories in the Old Testament.

The only thing that I wish was added to this film, would be that it would tie the message of Christ and redemption throughout the Old Testament stories (like Sally Lloyd-Jones does in her book The Jesus Storybook Bible. I wish that the Gospel message was woven throughout all of the stories, as it is in the Bible.Overall, I think that this is a great addition to our family’s DVD collection, and I would recommend it to others. It would probably also be a great aid to Sunday School teachers or Junior Church workers.

Get A Coupon-Packed Issue of All You for Free!!

If you read my post on "Where I Get My Coupons," then you already know that the All You magazine is one of my favorite sources of coupons. They are always packed with great coupons (not to mention the great recipes and money-saving articles), and you can even preview which coupons are in that issue before you buy it (there is an index in the back of the magazine). Plus, recently there has been a "$ .50 off your next All You Magazine coupon" in each issue, so you can automatically get $ .50 off your next issue!

These magazines can be purchased at any Walmart, but you can also get a subscription. Right now, Walmart is offering a free trial issue here. What a great way to pick up some more coupons...just sign up for the free trial issue. They will probably send you an invoice to see if you would like to continue to receive it - just write "cancel" and send it back.

6 Tips to Spend Freely in 2009

I read these tips in this month's All You magazine, and thought they were great reminders:

1. Just because you have a coupon for something, doesn't mean you should buy it. Try to save coupons until the item goes on sale. Matching up a coupon with a sale is the best way to save!

2. Stockpiling is a smart way to buy what you are going to need before you need it by taking advantage of sales. Keep in mind what the "expensive" items on your weekly list are, and watch for these items to go on sale.

3. Keep your eyes open for coupons "in-store." There are many great sources of coupons inside the grocery store - "blinkies"(dispensers attached to shelves), "peelies" (coupons attached to products), and "catalinas"(coupons that print off at the register).

4. Buy small. Typically it is a better deal to buy two smaller packages of something (using two coupons) than to use one coupon on one large package.

5. Don't shop at warehouse club stores. Since these stores do not take coupons, it is typically a better deal to only buy things such as diapers and cookware at these stores.

6. "Don't let one good deal drive you. If you decide to make lasagna because ground beef is 30% off this week, you could end up buying full price tomato sauce and noodles. Instead, buy the beef and freeze it. Continue to collect ingredients as they go on sale, then pull together meals from your pantry."

Walgreens Register Rewards - How To Use Them?

So I know many of you took advantage of the Huggies deal that I posted about last week, and you now have several $10.00 Register Rewards sitting around...don't forget that they EXPIRE!! Mine expire 3/22 and 3/25. So, what are you going to do with yours?

Well, please remember that you saved money by getting those Register Rewards back, but if you spend them on something that you don't already need, or something that you weren't already planning to purchase in your grocery budget, then you are NOT saving money!!

Remember, one of the things that made that Huggies deal so good was the fact that you were "saving" that $10.00. However, if you spend that on something that you don't need, it is like you spent that on the diapers - making the diapers not such a great deal after all!

Now, what to do with the Register Rewards? One way to get your money back, is to use it for the Free After Rebate items. (If you are not familiar with any of this "Walgreens lingo," it would be good for you to read my post here on Walgreens 101.). I will often wait until towards the end of the month to purchase my Free After Rebate items so that 1)I can use my Register Rewards on them, therefore getting that money back in a rebate or 2)Because Walgreens sometimes offers a $5.00 off a $25.00 purchase coupon later in the month, which I will use towards the Free After Rebate items. So, I am going to be using some of my Register Rewards towards the rebate items. I will then choose to receive my money back on a Walgreens Gift Card, earning 10% on your rebates. Did you catch that?! You're actually "earning" money by buying things!!

A couple more things to keep in mind regarding the Register Rewards:

1. You cannot have more items than you have coupons, and Register Rewards count as coupons...so if you are buying three items, and you want to use your Register Rewards and three coupons, you will have to buy some other small thing (pack of gum, etc.) to make it equal.
2. You cannot use a Register Reward if your total is less than the amount of the Register Reward...for example, if your total is $8.99, and your Register Reward is for $10.00, they will usually not let you use the Register Reward...make sure your amount is equal or over the amount of the Register Reward.
3. You can not use your Register Rewards to get more Register Rewards on the same deal. For example, if you did the Huggies deal and used the Register Rewards from that deal to go back through and do the Huggies deal again, the register will not print more Register Rewards for you.

Target Free Glasses - Kansas City Area

I know that there may not be many of you who can take advantage of this offer, but I am hoping that maybe you have friends or family who can. Several Target stores in the Kansas City, MO area are offering free glasses to children 12 and under with current prescriptions. There are no income guidelines, free pair can be a spare and the prescription does not need to be from Target. What a great deal!
