I think my favorite thing about the first day of school as a kid was always new clothes and a brand new box of crayons.
Now my favorite thing about the first day of school is opening the books with my kids and watching their excitement to learn.
As a teacher, my favorite thing about the first day of school is seeing all of the kids in their new clothes, fresh haircuts and how eager they are to get into a routine!
My favorite thing was always my new school supplies! :)
Watching the kids get so excited about settling into their desks...embarking on a whole new learning adventure with them!

My favorite part of the first day of school is how organized I am (compared to around mid-March anyway).
My favorite thing about the first day of school is all the excitement. The kids are excited about their new clothes, backpacks, pencil boxes, and lunchboxes. The teachers are excited about a classroom full of new children, ready to learn. Parents are excited about either teaching their children at home or watching their child head off for their first day of school!
OK. . .maybe this is selfish. . .but the QUIET is soooo nice
It's been awhile since I was in school, but I love the anticipation of the first day - what it will be like, what you will learn - I miss it! :-)
I always find it so funny how the kids have to put on their new back-to-school sweaters and jeans "because it's cold today: 65 degrees". But in April or May these same kids are wearing tank tops and shorts to school because "gee Mom, it's so hot out today: 65 degrees!"
We homeschool so my favorite thing about the first day of school is we have pajama day!=) Nothing like staying in your pj's for that first day of school!
The excitement of my daughter as she looks forward to learning new things for the school year.
