Walgreens Coupon Tips

Here is a reminder that could save you some frustration at the Walgreens check-out:

Sometimes the reason a coupon beeps is because the value of the coupon is more than the value of the item.

For example, last night I was purchasing the Bic Triumph pens that were on sale for $1.99 with a coupon that was for $2.00 off. After the cashier scanned all my items, she started scanning my coupons. All went well until the final coupon - the $2.00 Off Bic Triumph pens coupon. The first Bic coupon (I bought two packages with two coupons.) went through fine because the value of both Bic products together was still over the cost of the coupon. But when the second $2.00 off coupon was scanned the register beeped.

At this point, the cashier did not know why the coupon would not scan (I guess the registers do not show a reason for rejecting the coupon), so she was about to tell me that I could not use the coupon. I remembered that the pens were $1.99, and so she was able to manually reduce the amount of the coupon for $1.99 which the register accepted.

Another reason your coupons may beep is if you have more coupons than the amount of items that you are purchasing. (The one exception to this is store coupons/manufacturers coupons. You CAN have one store coupon AND one manufacturers coupon per item.) Don't forget: the Register Rewards count as manufacturers coupons. If you are purchasing items that you have coupons for and you want to use Register Rewards as well, you will need to purchase a small "filler item" (a $ .10 pencil or plastic cup will work fine) so that the register will see that you do not have more coupons than items that you are buying.
