Thomas Nelson Review

This is a review of a set of MP3s that I got for free through the "Thomas Nelson Book Review Bloggers." It is a great program if you have a blog. Basically, you apply, and if you are accepted, you have the choice of several products. Once they send it to you, you have to watch/read it/listen to it, write a 200-word review and post it on Amazon.com and your blog. Then, the product is yours to keep! Go here for more information.

The Word of Promise Next Generation New Testament MP3 set is a very well done dramatization of the New Testament. It is done using the International Children’s Bible, which makes it very understandable for children and adults alike.

Our family really enjoys listening to both this version, and the “original” version done in the NKJV. They really make the Bible come alive – especially those passages that sadly have become “too familiar” to many of us! Not only are each of the voices done by a different actor/actress, but they also incorporate music and sound effects. For example, when Jesus is on the boat in the storm, you can hear the waves crashing on to the boat!

Our six year old asks to listen to this as soon as we get in the car. They are also a great way to get discussions started in your family about the Bible. Our kids have asked very thought-provoking questions that have really made us think and study to answer!

The only thing I wasn’t crazy about, was the fact that it was all done (with the exception of two or three) by child or teen actors and actresses. This was done for the purpose of attracting teen listeners, but I still would enjoy listening to “more believable” voices for the voices of Bible characters such as John and Mark!

Overall, this resource is a great way to get the truths of God’s Word into the hearts of our families.
